Open Opportunities
VVS Referrals Coordinator
Full-time | 12-month fixed-term maternity cover | Starting November 2026
Salary: £28,000–£30,000 (depending on experience)
We are seeking a Registered Veterinary Nurse who is confident using technology, embraces new digital tools and systems, and is eager to learn and adapt quickly to evolving technologies and ways of working.
Help transform the way specialist veterinary care is delivered
If you’re an experienced veterinary nurse looking to use your clinical knowledge in a new way, this is an opportunity to become part of a supportive, forward-thinking team that is changing how specialist veterinary medicine is delivered across the UK and beyond. At Virtual Veterinary Specialists (VVS), we believe patients should be able to benefit from specialist expertise without leaving the veterinary practice they know and trust. Through our innovative virtual platform, we enable first-opinion veterinary teams to work directly alongside our specialists, delivering specialist-level care while patients remain within their own practice. As one of our Referrals Coordinators, you’ll play a vital role in making that happen every day.
About the role
As a Referrals Coordinator, you’ll be the trusted first point of contact for practices seeking specialist support. You’ll work closely with veterinary teams and our specialists to ensure patients receive timely access to expert care while providing an exceptional experience from the very first interaction. Using your veterinary nursing knowledge and understanding of practice life, you’ll help triage referrals, coordinate appointments across multiple specialist disciplines and support practices throughout their referral journey. Communication takes place through live chat, telephone and email, so excellent communication skills, sound clinical judgement and the ability to remain calm, organised and professional in a busy environment is essential. You’ll liaise between first opinion practices and VVS specialists to ensure appointments are coordinated quickly and efficiently, building trusted relationships and delivering an exceptional experience at every stage of the referral journey.
In this role, you’ll also work with a range of technology and IT support tasks, including:
• Providing remote access support and assistance to users.
• Troubleshooting hardware and software issues on VVS workstations.
• Installing updates and software to ensure systems remain secure and up to date.
• Performing routine maintenance and configuration of equipment.
• Diagnosing and resolving technical issues.
• Assisting with the setup and maintenance of the VVS workstations.
Full training will be provided; however, confidence using technology and a willingness to learn are essential.
About you
· We’re looking for someone with significant experience working in veterinary practice as a Registered Veterinary Nurse.
· Enjoys solving problems and thinking proactively.
· Can confidently prioritise multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
· Communicates professionally and empathetically with veterinary teams.
· Takes ownership of their work while thriving as part of a collaborative team.
· Enjoys identifying opportunities to improve processes and client experience.
· Has an understanding of referral practice and practice workflows (referral experience advantageous but not essential).
· Confident using technology, with a proactive approach to learning new systems, tools, and technical processes.
Working at VVS
VVS is a fully remote company, giving our team the flexibility to work primarily from home while remaining closely connected through our digital platform. You’ll work alongside leading veterinary specialists across multiple disciplines in a highly collaborative and supportive environment where everyone’s ideas are valued. Occasional travel may be required for company meetings, industry events and visits to partner practices.
Salary and benefits
· £28,000–£30,000 per annum (depending on experience and qualifications).
· Primarily remote working.
· Paid birthday leave day in addition to annual leave allowance.
· Opportunity to work alongside leading veterinary specialists across multiple disciplines.
· Supportive, collaborative and innovative team culture.
· The opportunity to make a genuine difference to patient care while helping transform the delivery of specialist veterinary medicine.
Working hours
This is a full-time position working Monday to Friday on a shift rota between 8.00 am and 7.00 pm. The role also includes participation in our Saturday and Bank Holiday rota. Our current Saturday rota is one in three Saturdays, with shifts from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm. While the rota currently averages one in three Saturdays, applicants should be able to commit to at least two Saturdays in every four-week period, as additional Saturday cover may occasionally be required to meet the needs of the business. Whenever you work a Saturday, you’ll receive a weekday off in lieu, providing flexibility around your working week.
