What teleconsulting services does VVS offer?
At VVS we provide advice calls and written reports across multiple specialist disciplines, including internal medicine, cardiology, dermatology, neurology, oncology, ophthalmology, dentistry and exotics to Veterinary Practices and veterinarians in the United States.
How does the VVS consultation process work?
Submit your case via our online form (at the bottom of this page) or email the patient information and request to [email protected].
A specialist will review your case and provide guidance through an advice call during a video consultation or by provided a detailed written report depending on your preference. Throughout this process, we encourage you to share diagnostic findings like imaging files, lab results and clinical history to ensure the specialist input is as informed as possible.
As a veterinarian, is the patient still under my care?
Yes. As the submitting veterinarian, you retain full responsibility for the patient’s care under the Veterinarian–Client–Patient Relationship (VCPR). The specialist service is strictly advisory and supportive, not a transfer of care.
Do you offer live-guided procedures?
No we do not currently provide live-guided work-ups or real-time procedures to patients in North America. Support is offered exclusively through advice calls and written reports at this time.
Can I rely solely on remote consultation to fulfil my regulatory and legal obligations?
While the specialist input is valuable, you remain the attending veterinarian and ultimately responsible for medical decisions under VCPR requirements. We recommend that you check with your state veterinary medical board how teleconsultations of this type fit within its regulatory framework and scope. Particularly, as regulations can vary between US states.
What should I prepare before submitting a case?
To ensure an efficient and effective review, first ensure that you have the pet parent or parents’ consent to share information about their pet. Please then submit the following in advance to VVS:
- Patient history and clinical background
- Relevant diagnostic data (e.g., lab results, imaging studies, ECGs)
- Clear clinical questions or concerns you want the specialist to address
- Preferred format: advice call or written report
How long does it take to receive specialist input?
Turnaround times vary by specialty and workload. Written reports typically are delivered within 3 working days. Advice calls are scheduled promptly based on mutual availability however do be aware as a UK-based company the hours of availability are within UK working hours.
How are your fees structured?
Fees vary depending on the teleconsultation service requested. The current fee for our ‘Specialist written case review – Includes follow up for 6 weeks’ is $175.00. For a more detailed breakdown of costs of VVS specialist teleconsultation services please email [email protected] to request this.
What if I have questions after receiving the report or advice?
Follow-up is included for 6 weeks following VVS teleconsultation services unless requested otherwise.
Can clients request VVS teleconsultation services?
No. As a vet-to-vet referral service, we only accept case submissions directly from licensed veterinary professionals. Pet owners cannot request consultations with VVS specialists directly. If a client is interested in accessing our services, they should discuss this with their primary veterinarian.
