RCVS and European Specialist in Veterinary Cardiology
After graduating from the Cambridge Veterinary School, Virginia spent 5 years working as a small animal vet in general practice, obtaining the RCVS certificates in radiology and cardiology. She then became a Lecturer at the R(D)SVS in Edinburgh, where she became an RCVS Diplomate in Cardiology and gained a PhD on the echocardiographic analysis of canine dilated cardiomyopathy.
She then moved to the US, where she was an Assistant Professor at the University of Missouri-Columbia (where she became an ACVIM Diplomate), and then the Ohio State University.
She joined the Royal Veterinary College in 2004, where she is a Professor of Veterinary Cardiology. She is a past Chair of the ECVIM Cardiology Specialty, and was Chair of the ACVIM Feline Cardiomyopathy Consensus Statement group. She is currently co-chair of the joint American Society of Echocardiography /ACVIM /ECVIM /ESVC Consensus Statement writing group on 2D and M-mode echocardiography in dogs and cats. Virginia is passionate about improving access to echocardiography for vets in general practice, and is delighted to be joining the VVS team!
