European Specialist in Veterinary Cardiology
João graduated in 2009 from Porto University, Portugal. After graduation he worked for four years in general practice in Portugal with a focus in Cardiology. He moved to the UK in January 2013 to undertake a cardiology internship at the University of Liverpool. After this, he completed a 13-month rotating internship program at Dick White Referrals and, in 2014, he started his residency in Small Animal Cardiology at the University of Liverpool. After completion of his residency, João was promoted to Lecturer in Small Animal Cardiology in the same University before joining Willows Referral Service in 2018, where he worked for 4 years. He became a European Specialist in Small Animal Cardiology (ECVIM-CA) in 2021.
In early 2022, Joao moved back to Portugal to join a Veterinary Cardiology Centre in Porto, and a Veterinary Cardiology Centre near Lisbon. As well as working for Virtual Veterinary Specialists, João lectures in a Veterinary College in Lisbon.
João enjoys all aspects of medical and interventional cardiology, but he has a particular interest in congestive heart failure management, cardiorenal syndrome and arrhythmias. João has given presentations at national and international congresses on several topics of small animal cardiology as well as cardiology-focused CPD.
